Journal Entry:
I spent the morning copying music to take with us. After lunch, I called DAN (Divers Alert Network) Australia to ask about diving after surgery. I really want to believe my doctor who says it's ok a week afterwards, but that just doesn't seem right. I talked to a nurse who didn't think that sounded safe, but he promised to relay the question and have a doctor call me back. I walked up to the girls house a little depressed because I didn't know what I should do - i.e. should I be spending a lot of money to even go to Palau or Yap if I can't dive? After whinning to everyone I got a phone callback from DAN (kudos to them, I was surprised that they would call me back international long distance to answer a dive question) - the news was good. From a decompression sickness point of view there was no reason why I couldn't dive, however the doctor stressed that I should be very aware of my physical condition. Good news.

The sun came out and Stacy and I were going to walk to the nearby Kepirohi Waterfall, but somehow she kept coming up with things that had to be done, so by the time we actually set out to walk there wasn't nearly enough time to make it before sunset. We opted to go for a short walk back towards Temwen (pronounced "Chemwin") Island. While we were walking we caught up with one of Stacy's old students and ended up walking with her. By the time we got to her house we figured we were nearly half way around the island so we should just continue around - neither of us had been all the way around before. The road degenerated to a rutted path and at times I started to worry about it getting dark - trying to walk through the mud would not have been fun in pitch black. Luckily the dusk was very long and we got back to the paved road just as it was really getting dark. By the time we got back to campus we'd been for a really nice two hour trek.
