Journal Entry:
By the time the doctor came around for his morning rounds the Demerol shots were actually working for a full four plus hours. The doctor came by and spent a few minutes with me, basically saying that everything looked good - I could drink today, should move around as much as possible, and if all went well I could go home tomorrow. A little while later a nurse came by and exposed me to the entire ward as she removed my catheter. The removal wasn't exactly painful, but it was a very uncomfortable sensation and I'd rather avoid experiencing it again - I cannot believe how long the thing was. After wiggling into my shorts, drinking a couple glasses of water and practicing sitting up a couple times I was ready to try standing up. Stacy showed up around then and was able to help me on my first attempt at walking to the bathroom - not easy, but not to bad. Better yet things worked better than I expected - I thought I'd be sore from the extra equipment and lack of use.

In the afternoon Stacy left and I spent the time reading - really just trying to stay awake so I could sleep that night. As the day progressed each pain killer shot lasted longer than the one before. Later in the afternoon Stacy came back and we played cards and read. At some point there were two brightly dressed women were laying their hands on a small boy across the ward and chanting (strangely synchronized, but different words). I thought it might be local healing, but then I realized that I could pick occasional words out - it was a faith healing. When Stacy left at eight I pretty much fell asleep instantly.
